My Marketing

Many times over the past ten days was I ready to either throw my laptop against a wall or erase this entire website and never work on it again! I stuck to it, though, and learned a lot about website creation and management. When I grew either utterly overwhelmed or absolutely weary of the process of scrolling through "Help" topics on both this program and in Google, I would stop trying to deal with a problem and move on to some activity I understood (like backgrounds!) or walk away for a while. Maybe even watch a horror movie.

Today marked the end of my patience. I finally gave in and tapped the button to the AI help desk, knowing full well the artificial intelligence in WIX would tell me to do exactly everything I had already been doing. After numerous "I-did-thats" and "I-tried-thats", even the robot helping me lost its patience. It eventually decided to hand me over to a real live human being. Which was exactly what I wanted all along. A very patient guy named "George."

George initially tried all the same tactics as his robot counterpart. Then he got into my webpage (which he should have done from the get-go) and realized that three of my sections were not separate and distinct pages, thereby allowing me to link the menu to them, but were all three part of the Home page! Voila! George got a tad cheeky, suggesting I should have known this. Then I told him in no uncertain terms that I could not see what he could see. I held my temper and merely asked how to fix the problem.

In less than an hour, the website linkages were fixed. Thank you, George. Although I refused to leave a nice review of the chat when it ended--only because I hadn't yet actually achieved what he had promised to be the outcome of his rather ambiguous instructions. Now, alas, I cannot. So, I hope that George reads my post someday and learns I finally succeeded. All thanks to him. And a flustered AI agent.

All for the purpose of using technology to make readers aware of my books. Now that my website is ready (I hope to God--or George, as the case may be) and soon to be running, I have to go into the Wix tutorial and learn about SEO now. That means "Search Engine Optimization". And it sounds scary as hell. I'll be spending the next ten days trying to figure out what key words I need to be using to draw attention to my novels. I'm certain it will mean having to overhaul all the beautiful work I've done so far so that adorable little bots will pour excitedly over every page and reward me for a slew of sexy search terms by putting my website front and center in every erotic-romance-lover's face.

Where it belongs.
